Idiopathic peripheral neuropathy refers to damage of the peripheral nerves where cause can not be determined. When the peripheral nerves are damaged, there are often symptoms that affect the feet.
Autonomic neuropathy symptoms can be heart intolerance, excess sweat or no sweat, blood pressure changes, bladder, bowel or digestive problems. Physician does a thorough physical examination including extremity neurological exam and noting vitals.
Detailed history of the patient like symptoms, lifestyle and exposure to toxins may also help to diagnose neuropathy. Blood tests, CT, MRI, electromyography, nerve biopsy and skin biopsy are the tests used to confirm neuropathy.
