High PTH levels could indicate: conditions that cause increased phosphorus levels, like chronic kidney disease. the body isn't responding to PTH (pseudohypoparathyroidism) swelling or tumors in the parathyroid glands.
A noncancerous (benign) growth, called an adenoma, forms on a single parathyroid gland. The adenoma causes the gland to overact and make more PTH. This is the most common cause. Primary hyperparathyroidism is a condition in which one or more of the parathyroid glands makes too much PTH. This can lead to the loss of bone tissue. This condition is more common in women than in men. A job of PTH is to keep blood calcium levels from going too low.
Parathyroid hormone acts to increase blood calcium levels, while calcitonin acts to decrease blood calcium levels. When blood calcium levels drop below a certain point, calcium-sensing receptors in the parathyroid gland are activated, and the parathyroid glands release parathyroid hormone into the blood.
Bone ALP is secreted by osteoblast cells. It is involved in the bone formation and skeletal mineralization. PTH stimulates osteoblast activity and thus increases level of ALP in blood (8,9).
