What Can Be Considered “Normal Vaginal Discharge” or “Leukorrhea”? Vaginal discharge (medically known as leukorrhea), refers to the natural secretions that are released from a woman's vagina. These secretions are responsible for lubrication and the prevention of infection.
What is imperforate hymen? A half moon of thin membrane normally surrounds the opening of a young girl's vagina. In the case of an imperforate hymen, a membrane extends all the way across the area of the hymen, blocking the vaginal opening. It is easily corrected through a minor surgery.
Typically it is shaped like a half moon, leaving space for menstrual blood to flow out of the vagina. A microperforate hymen is when this thin membrane almost completely covers the opening to the vagina, with only a very small hole in the middle, making it difficult for menstrual blood to flow out.
The hymen can also be called a hymenal ring if it encircles the outer walls of the vaginal opening. Hymens can have many shapes and forms. If the hymen is intact, it may look like a thin disc covering the opening of the vagina or a doughnut-shaped ring around the vagina (hymenal ring).
