Labor contractions Contractions are the tightening of the muscles of the uterus. During contractions, the abdomen becomes hard. Between contractions, the uterus relaxes and the abdomen becomes soft. The way a contraction feels is different for each woman, and it may feel different from one pregnancy to the next.
What is the latent phase of labour? The start of labour is called the latent phase. This is when your cervix becomes soft and thin as it gets ready to open up (dilate) for your baby to be born. For this to happen, you'll start having contractions, which may be irregular and vary in frequency, strength and length.
As a result the simple ICD-9-CM procedure code for labor induction, 73.4 (“Medical Induction of Labor”) has been replaced with the rather generic and opaque ICD-10-PCS procedure code: 3E033VJ (“Introduction of other hormone into peripheral vein, percutaneous approach”).
Cervical funneling is defined sonographically as a protrusion of amniotic membranes into the internal cervical os by greater than 5 mm from the shoulder of the original internal os as measured along the lateral border of the funnel [4]. This finding is usually accompanied by short cervical length (defined as <25 mm).
What is short cervix? A short cervix means the length of your cervix (also called cervical length) is shorter than normal. You may find out that you have a short cervix during an ultrasound that you get as part of your regular prenatal care. Prenatal care is medical care you get during pregnancy.
CPT® Code 59320 in section: Cerclage of cervix, during pregnancy.
Braxton Hicks contractions are a tightening in your abdomen that comes and goes. They are contractions of your uterus in preparation for giving birth. They tone the muscles in your uterus and may also help prepare the cervix for birth.
Their production by uterine tissues increases during pregnancy, as does their concentration in amniotic fluid and in maternal blood and urine. Their roles in labor, whether natural or induced, include the softening of the cervix, the induction of gap junctions, and the direct stimulation of myometrial contractions.
Moderate and intensifying contractions. They generally last 30 to 45 seconds and can be regular or irregular. They'll gradually become more frequent, spaced up to about 20 minutes apart at first to about five minutes apart by the end of early labor.
Uterine inertia. Uterine inertia (absence of effective contractions during labor) Clinic al Information. Failure of the uterus to contract with normal strength, duration, and intervals during childbirth (labor, obstetric). It is also called uterine atony.
