Discectomy. A discectomy is carried out to release the pressure on your spinal nerves caused by a bulging or slipped disc. As with a laminectomy, the surgeon will make an incision over the affected area of your spine down to the lamina.
When the laminectomy or laminotomy is performed primarily for spinal stenosis, the decompression procedure is the primary focus and if only a minor discectomy or no discectomy is performed in the procedure, then Codes 60345 or 63047 would be used.

A: This is probably the biggest controversy in CPT spinal fusion coding. First of all, CPT 63047 does not bundle with 22612, so that's an easy yes, you can bill both. The issue is that CPT 63047 bundles with both 22630, 22633.
