There are three categories of radial head fractures:
Rib Fracture is a break of one or more of the rib bones. A nondisplaced rib fracture causes breathing difficulty. Olecranon Fracture is a common result of a fall with impact to the bony part of the elbow. A nondisplaced fracture sees immobilization of the elbow for three weeks. Tibial Plateau Fracture is a break of the shinbone, or the tibia.
The radius bone goes from your elbow to your wrist. The radial head is at the top of the radius bone, just below your elbow. A fracture is a break in your bone. The most common cause of a radial head fracture is falling with an outstretched arm.
When distal radius fractures are not simple fracture patterns, reduction may best be performed in the hands of an orthopedist or hand surgeon. Highly comminuted intra-articular fractures are unstable in anyone’s hands and will require surgery.
Nondisplaced fracture of head of right radius, initial encounter for closed fracture. S52. 124A is a billable/specific ICD-10-CM code that can be used to indicate a diagnosis for reimbursement purposes.
733.82 - Nonunion of fracture.
ICD-10-CM Code for Unspecified fracture of the lower end of right radius, initial encounter for closed fracture S52. 501A.

In ICD-10-CM a fracture not indicated as displaced or nondisplaced should be coded to displaced, and a fracture not designated as open or closed should be coded to closed. While the classification defaults to displaced for fractures, it is very important that complete documentation is encouraged.
Nonunion and malunion fractures are identified with defective healing: nonunion describes the failure of a fractured bone to heal and mend after an extended period of time; malunion refers to a fracture that has healed in a deformed position, or with shortening or rotation of the limb.
S52. 135A is a billable/specific ICD-10-CM code that can be used to indicate a diagnosis for reimbursement purposes. The 2022 edition of ICD-10-CM S52. 135A became effective on October 1, 2021.
What is a distal radius fracture? The distal radius is the end (distal) portion of the forearm bone (radius). It connects to the carpal bones at the wrist and runs parallel to the ulna, which is the other bone of the forearm. The radius transmits up to 80% of the forces across the wrist to the forearm.
CPT® 25605 in section: Closed treatment of distal radial fracture (eg, Colles or Smith type) or epiphyseal separation, includes closed treatment of fracture of ulnar styloid, when performed.
A nondisplaced fracture is one in which the bone cracks or breaks but retains its proper alignment. Nondisplaced fractures often require only bracing, booting or casting treatment.
Displaced unstable fractures of the radial head are usually associated with other fractures or ligament injuries, and restoration of radiocapitellar contact by reconstruction or prosthetic replacement of the fractured head is necessary to prevent subluxation or dislocation of the elbow and forearm.
Type III Fractures In most Type III radial head fractures, there is also significant damage to the elbow joint and the ligaments that surround the elbow.
The principles of multiple coding of injuries should be followed in coding fractures. Fractures of specified sites are coded individually by site nd the level of detail furnished by medical record content.
Non-specific codes like S52.125 require more digits to indicate the appropriate level of specificity. Consider using any of the following ICD-10 codes with a higher level of specificity when coding for nondisplaced fracture of head of left radius:
Your elbow joint is made up of bone, cartilage, ligaments and fluid. Muscles and tendons help the elbow joint move. When any of these structures is hurt or diseased, you have elbow problems.

The General Equivalency Mapping (GEM) crosswalk indicates an approximate mapping between the ICD-10 code S52.125A its ICD-9 equivalent. The approximate mapping means there is not an exact match between the ICD-10 code and the ICD-9 code and the mapped code is not a precise representation of the original code.
When code S52.125A is part of the patient's diagnoses the following Quality Measures apply and affect reimbursement. The objective of Medicare's Quality Measures is to improve patient care by making it more: effective, safe, efficient, patient-centered and equitable.
