90681 Rotavirus vaccine, human, attenuated, 2 dose schedule, live, for oral use (Rotarix).
If you administer a Rotavirus vaccine to a patient and provide counseling, you should bill 90680 for the immunization, followed by 90460 for the administration.
ICD-10 requires only one code (Z23) per vaccination, regardless if single or combination. Report Z23 for all vaccination diagnoses.
Z23 is a billable/specific ICD-10-CM code that can be used to indicate a diagnosis for reimbursement purposes. The 2022 edition of ICD-10-CM Z23 became effective on October 1, 2021.
For immunization administration other than COVID-19, codes 90460–90474 are reported for the administration of the vaccine, along with the appropriate vaccine/toxoid code (90476–90756) targeting the organism.
If the immunization is related to exposure (eg, the administration of a Tdap vaccine as a part of wound care), the ICD-10 code describing the exposure should be used as the primary diagnosis code for the vaccine, and Z23 should be used as the secondary code.
Use HCPCS Level II code M0201 for the additional payment for administering the COVID-19 vaccine to certain Medicare patients in their homes.
Inoculations and Vaccinations ICD-10-CM Coding Code Z23, which is used to identify encounters for inoculations and vaccinations, indicates that a patient is being seen to receive a prophylactic inoculation against a disease.

Previously, new vaccines are only available in the private clinics and the costs for RV vaccines in the market in 2018 ranged from US$34 to $44 per dose.
Both rotavirus vaccines are administered orally, by putting drops in the infant's mouth. Each requires multiple doses: RotaTeq® (RV5) is given in three doses at 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months of age.
The vaccine contains live weakened rotavirus. In countries like New Zealand, a course of either Rotarix vaccine will protect around babies in 10 from severe rotavirus infection and needing to be admitted to hospital because of rotavirus infection.
Route, Site, and Needle Size Administer all Hib-containing vaccines by the intramuscular route. The preferred injection site in infants and young children is the vastus lateralis muscle of the thigh. The preferred injection site in older children and adults is the deltoid muscle in the upper arm.
