The T3 test is used to help diagnose thyroid problems, such as hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism means the thyroid gland makes too many thyroid hormones. T3 has 2 forms: bound and free. Bound T3 is attached to a protein and free T3 is not attached to anything. The free T-3 test measures only the amount of free T3.
The total T3 test measures both bound and free T3, while the free T3 test measures only the T3 that is not attached to protein. T3 measurements are typically used along with other thyroid function tests, like TSH and free and total T4, to evaluate how your thyroid is functioning.

The Free and Total Thyroid Profile test measures the levels of triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), free T3, free T4, and thyroid-stimulating hormones (TSH) in blood. If these levels are not within the normal range, it can be a sign of thyroid disease.
