to the bladder. Report 50780 if this procedure is used. Report 50782 if the physician attaches a duplicated ureter to the bladder. Report 50783 if the anastomosis requires extensive urethral reconstruction. Report 50785 if the anastomosis requires suturing the bladder and psoas, or by fashioning a long, elliptical flap from the bladder. Coding Tips

CPT® Code 53600 in section: Dilation of urethral stricture by passage of sound or urethral dilator, male.
What is a Cystoscopy and Urethral Dilation? This procedure involves telescopic inspection of the bladder and urethra, gentle dilation of the urethra, and occasionally bladder biopsy or removal of abnormal areas with the use of a heat diathermy device.

Urethral dilation It is typically performed under local or general anesthesia. Thin rods of increasing diameters are gently inserted into the urethra in order to open the urethral narrowing without causing further injury. This procedure may need to be repeated from time to time, as strictures recur.
Local anesthesia is required with dilation, during which a doctor often uses rubber or metal instruments to stretch and widen the urethra. At NYU Langone, however, doctors perform this procedure using a balloon catheter, which is inserted into the urethra and slowly inflated in order to widen the stricture.
The female urethral dilation CPT codes (53660–53665) involve the insertion of dilators, usually multiple dilators of progressively increasing size, to widen the urethra, and promote complete voiding of the bladder in patients with voiding problems.
The appropriate coding for a medically necessary cystoscopy at the same encounter as a prostate needle biopsy would be 55700, 52000, and 76872. 52000 is not bundled into a prostate needle biopsy and should be paid separately without requiring a modifier.
52204: Cystourethroscopy, with biopsy(s) 52224: Cystourethroscopy, with fulguration (including cryosurgery or laser surgery) or treatment of MINOR (less than 0.5cm) lesion(s) with or without biopsy.
